Editorial standards

Nictick covers events that plausibly move markets a trader watches: geopolitics, central bank decisions and signals, commodities, equities, forex, crypto, macro data, regulation, and major corporate events. If an event does not change what a trader should be paying attention to, we leave it out.

We work from primary sources wherever one exists — a central bank statement, an exchange filing, an official release, a named representative of the party involved — in preference to secondary reporting of them.

Where a story is still moving and the primary source has not spoken, we publish it tagged Breaking or Developing and say what is not yet known, rather than waiting in silence or implying more certainty than we have.

A claim is tagged Confirmed only once the primary party or an official source has stated it. Until then it carries a status that says otherwise. The status tag is the honest signal of how sure we are — it is not decoration.

High, Medium, Low and Watch are our editorial assessment of how much an event matters, not a measured quantity. Reasonable people will disagree with a call. We publish the judgement openly so it can be disagreed with.
